Melvin D. Crane Sr., 91, of Mankato, died Sunday, October 9, 2016 at his home.
A Funeral Service for Melvin will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Mankato Mortuary, with burial to follow at Minneopa Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary, and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorials may be given to the Blue Earth Nicollet County Humane Society.
Melvin David Crane Sr. was born June 19, 1925 in North Mankato to Hugh and Ethel Crane. He graduated from Rapidan High School, and from there went on to proudly serve in the United States Navy, from which he was honorably discharged. He was married to Linnie F. Mahoney in 1946. Melvin owned and operated Top Notch T.V. Service and Repair, and after 30 years he retired from Minnesota State University as a journeyman electrician. His hobbies revolved around spending time with his family, whether that be in his several trips to Branson, Missouri or in his daily lunch and afternoon coffee dates with them. When it came time, Melvin took care of the love of his life Linnie, in her final years before she passed away in 2007.
Melvin will be dearly missed by his children Linda (Duane) Sandborg of St. Peter, MN, Carol Meier of Mankato, MN, and Melvin (Annette) Crane Jr. of Mankato; grandkids Brian Buelow of Winona, MN, Kevin (Jackie) Sandborg of St. Peter, Keith (Brenda) Sandborg of Waseca, MN, Kelly (Dawn) Sandborg of St. Clair, MN, Kris (Jennifer) Koehler-Sandborg of St. Peter, Kimberley (Shawn) Deming of St. Peter, Heidi (Shawn) Bergersen of Waterford, WI, and Heather (Jeff) Baron of St. Peter, Sadie (Nathan) Whiting of Russellville, KY, Hannah (Kenny) Langworthy of Mankato, Aubrey Crane of Mankato; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sister-in-law Louise Graber of Fort Wayne, IN; brother-in-law Robert Mahoney of Fort Wayne, IN; and of course, his little dog and best friend, Buddy.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife Linnie Faye Crane (Mahoney); daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Jerry Buelow (Crane); parents; and siblings Bill Crane, Myrna Walrath; and Irene Moses.
