Margaret Caroline Thompson, age 91 of Mankato died peacefully Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Pathstone Living.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church with Rev. John Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in St. Peter. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. Friday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
Margaret was born April 30, 1925 to Louis and Helen (Baumberger) Birr in rural Kasota, Minnesota. She graduated from St. Peter High School in 1943 and also graduated from Mankato Teacher College. Margaret was united in marriage to Wayne “Bill” Thompson on September 19, 1959 at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church.
Margaret taught art in Mankato Schools and Medford before becoming a homemaker for her family. Later she and her husband co-owned “Bills Sanitation”.
She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Mankato. Margaret was a caregiver for relatives and neighbors for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening, cooking, baking, canning, sewing and politics
Margaret is survived by three children, Ruth (Mark) Klabunde and their son, Billy of St. Paul, MN, William (Kristin) Thompson and their children, Trace, Rory and Dorothea of Minneapolis, MN Louis Thompson and his children, Brock, Lyndze, and Kylee of Traverse, MN; five siblings, Albert (Alma) Birr, Anna Johnson, Louis (Diane) Birr Jr., Helen (Richard) Thedens, Marie (Clifford) Volkmann; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill 2013; brother-in-law, Roger.
