Thomas Omer Doyle, age 88, of Mankato, died Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato, with Rev. John Kunz officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association. Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Thomas, or “Doc” as he was known, was born March 30, 1928, in Easton. He was the son of J. Mart and Marie (Kipp) Doyle. After graduating from Wells High School, Tom entered Michigan State University where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree (DVM). He entered the U.S. Army and served in Holland and Portugal and was honorably discharged in 1953 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Tom started his 50 plus years career as a veterinarian in Minnesota Lake.
Tom was united in marriage to Mary Banks on July 1, 1953, in Easton. Tom and Mary moved to Good Thunder where they raised their five children and cared for farm animals as well as countless pets in the community. Shortly after retirement they moved to their home in Mankato. Tom was a past member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Good Thunder and a current member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW, Southern Minnesota and National Veterinary Association, Heather Curling Club and Mapleton Curling Club, and was a 25 year Good Thunder School Board member. Tom enjoyed horse racing at Canterbury Downs and the Kentucky Derby, fishing, hunting, and traveling, including trips to Las Vegas, Texas, Alaska, and Ireland. Tom and Mary have enjoyed many years spending time with their children and especially loved time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his wife, Mary of Mankato; children, Pam Kunz of Columbia Heights, Guy (Renee) Doyle of Amboy, Kevin (Bee) Doyle of San Antonio, TX, Kelly Doyle of Columbia Heights, and Laurie (Tom) Jongbloedt of Mankato; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary (Jim) Schmid and Nan Herman, all of Chanhassen; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack and Jim; brother-in-law, Bill (Elsie) Banks; nephews, Kip Goodrich and Kenny Banks; and a niece, Brenna Davis.
