Geraldine Opal Johnson, age 101, of Lake Crystal, died Monday, September 19, 2016 at the United Hospital District in Blue Earth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Lake Crystal. Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., Friday at the church. Interment will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth or the United Hospital District, Blue Earth.
Geraldine was born March 22, 1915 to Walter and Blanch (Cleveland) Othoudt in Lake Crystal. She attended and graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1934 and later from the Mankato Cosmetology School in 1935. On May 31, 1940 she was united in marriage to Robert F. Johnson at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn, MN. She owned and operated “Jerry’s Beauty Shop” from 1954 to until retiring in 1975. Geraldine was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, WCCW, and the Mankato Antique Club. She enjoyed collecting stamps, dolls, and cherished spending time with her family.
Geraldine is survived by her three children, Susan (William) Motl of Mesa, AZ, Roberta (Norman) Duggan of Blue Earth; and Dr. Stanley Johnson of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren, Becky (Liam) McDonald, Kerry (Sarah) Motl, Marsha (Eric) Hoeft, Matt Motl, Brad (Shanna) Duggan, Amy (Chris) Pierce, and Tim Duggan; nine great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryan, Zack, Nathan, Emily, Anna, James, John, and Reagan; nephews, nieces, and many cousins.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 2003; daughter-in-law, Regina Johnson; siblings, Wayne Othoudt, Cecile Grise, Jean Severson, Mildred Griffiths, and Frances Wigley.
