Marjorie Elizabeth Walter Olson, 88 of rural Mankato, died at home, Wednesday, September 14, 2016.
Visitation will be 6-8pm, Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at North Mankato Mortuary. A Celebration of Life will be 2pm, Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Crossview Covenant Church, North Mankato.
Marjorie was born in rural Edgeley, ND on June 28, 1928, to Orin and Mary (Alford) Walter. On June 28, 1947, she married Otis Clifford Olson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Marjorie attended rural schools and graduated from Edgeley High School in 1946. After high school she attended business school in Fargo, ND. After joining Otis in Iowa, she used her business skills and did so later when Otis started Door Engineering.
Marjorie was a reader all her life and a student of the Bible. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She knitted, crocheted, and sewed. She took a class and started a tradition of decorated birthday cakes and Christmas cookies. When she retired she started quilting and was planning baby quilts when she became sick. Over the years she has volunteered in her church, community Bible studies, being a companion for the elderly, and recently at the Neighborhood Store in Mankato. She was always caring for someone and valued the individual as much as the group.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years; children: David (Joan) Olson, Stephen (Barb) Olson, Susan (Lee) Ruotsinoja, Teri Johnson (Leroy Jopp), Douglas Olson; grandchildren: Karl (Pam) Olson, Erin (Chad) DeBlieck, Erik Olson, Joshua Olson (Tamika Bertram), Kate Olson (Terrance Archibald), Jenny (Dylan) Olson-Cole, Josiah Ruotsinoja (Jenny Foss), Eve Ruotsinoja, Shawn (Amy) Johnson, Ryan (Kelly) Johnson, Matt (Stephanie) Johnson and 14 great-grandchildren; her three siblings: Maurice (Diane) Walter, Marlin (Donna) Walter, and Marilynne (Howard) Stemen; and step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her.
Marjorie was preceded in death by one infant son, Paul; her parents and in-laws; three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles and cousins.
