On Saturday, September 10th Gordon Lee Graham, age 60, went to Heaven. He was surrounded by his loved ones as Jesus gently took him home. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 14 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary from 4-7 p.m. Service will be at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato on Thursday, September 15th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation 1 hour before.
Gordy was born on October 5, 1955 to Jerry and Barbara (Lee) Graham in Sheboygan, WI. He grew up in Mankato in a loving family with one brother and two sisters.
He graduated from Mankato West High School in 1974, and MSU in 1979. He taught 5th grade for 3 years in Fairfax, MN, then began a career in financial advising for Northwestern Mutual Life in 1982. He cared deeply for his clients and colleagues, and loved developing and sharing his experience with young, new advisors.
He was a volunteer, serving on many boards at First Presbyterian Church of Mankato, YWCA, MAYBA, and others.
He met the love of his life, Carolyn Steck, in high school. They married in 1976 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Mankato. They were blessed with three children and ten grandchildren.
He loved Christ, his family, fishing, gardening, baseball, art, and building relationships with people. He had a knack for adding value to others at every opportunity. He was a generous soul in all aspects of his life. He had kind eyes, a caring heart, and an infectious smile that would light up any room.
The people he cherished most and who survive him are his wife of 40 years, Carolyn; daughter, Stephanie (Kyle) Anderson; sons, Michael (Jill) Graham and Nathaniel (Heidi) Graham. Grandchildren, Hadley, Piper, and Bryndel Anderson, Brooklyn, Jeremiah, Savannah, and Asher Graham, Kenzie, Cylas, and Nolan Graham. Father, Jerry (Joan) Graham; siblings, Patty (Chris) Burseth, Dave (Kristine) Graham, Nancy Dobson (Joe Meixl); father and mother-in-law, Seibert and Joan Steck; sister and brother-in-law, LeAnne (Dan) Hines; brother and sister-in-law, Mark (Sandy) Steck and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Barbara Graham.
In lieu of flowers consider planting something in your garden in memory of Gordy. Monetary donations could be made to one of Gordy’s favorite charities: Mankato Area Children in Need Mission Save a Smile or, donations will be made to a local anti-smoking adolescent campaign.
In Gordy’s words, “I believe in Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior and I will walk in His light all the days of my life and for eternity.”
