Michael John Donahue, 77 of Mankato, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Laurels Edge Assisted Living.
Visitation will be held from 4-6pm, Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary (2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato, MN 56003). Mass will be 10am, Friday, September 2, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (632 S. Broad Street, Mankato, MN 56001) with visitation one hour prior. Military honors will take place at church after Mass and burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.

Michael was born June 2, 1939 in Blue Earth County, MN to Robert and Bernice (Gierke) Donahue. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1957. After graduating, he sailed on The Great Lakes working as a deck hand on The George M. Humphrey. Mike attended barber school in St. Paul. On January 6, 1962, he married Marlene Anderson at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1962-1968. Their family moved to Mankato in 1968 where he owned and operated the Madison East Barber Shop. He sold his business in 1972 and went to work as a salesman for All State Insurance Company until he retired in 2000.
Michael was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and served as a minister of hospitality for many years. He was also a member of The Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Donahue of Mankato; children, Maria (Todd Thorson) Donahue of Eagle Lake, Todd (Kathy) Donahue of Waseca, Lisa (Joe Hogan) Donahue of Mankato, and Troy (Katie) Donahue of North Mankato; grandchildren, Matthew Lee, Marissa Lee, Kayla (Micaiah) Becker, Kirsten Donahue, Jake Donahue, Nate Donahue, and Taylor Donahue; great-grandchildren, Madison, Jayda, and Eli Michael; siblings, Janice Rucker, Jim (Sharon) Donahue, and John Donahue; sister-in-law, Ann Donahue; and brother-in-law, Larry (Lou) Anderson.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Donahue; and grandson, Michael Todd Donahue.
