Vincent D. Fox, age 84, of Mankato, MN died Monday, August 15, 2016.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato, MN with Rev. Patrick Patterson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Saturday.   A committal service will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Huron, SD at a later date. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Vincent was born June 1, 1932, to Clinton and Sally (Vincent) Fox in Sioux City, IA.  He grew up there and graduated from Central High School in 1950.  He attended Iowa State College for a time and then graduated from Dunwoody Industrial Institute (printing department), Minneapolis, MN.  After graduation, Vincent spent 42 years working in newspapers in Minnesota and South Dakota.  He retired May 16, 1997 after 39 years with the Huron Plainsman.

On Aug. 21, 1953, he married Donna Lea Loetz in Sioux City, IA.  While in Huron he was a member of First Baptist Church, serving as moderator, trustee, Sunday school teacher and financial secretary. Vince was also Cub Master for Wilson School Cub Scouts, was Wilson School PTA president and actively supported his sons’ sporting endeavors.  He was a 52+-year (started July of 1963) member of the American Iris Society and Region 21 AIS, and was editor of the Region 21 AIS Bulletin for 10 years.  Vince and his wife, Donna, received the Distinguished Service Award in 2003 from Region 21 of AIS.

Vince enjoyed watching and playing baseball, playing in Sioux City, Minneapolis, Montevideo, Clark, and Huron with a stint with the Madison Broncos in the Eastern South Dakota State League.  He was an avid New York Yankees fan.  He also enjoyed bowling, gardening and the iris flowers.

He is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey of Midland, MI, and Timothy “Fred” (Molly) of North Mankato, MN; six grandchildren, Michael and Tyler of Midland, and Zachary, Hannah, Patrick and Jack of North Mankato; brother Val (Adelle) of Jefferson, SD; nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their great appreciation for those who cared for him over these past 10 months. Mayo Health Systems, Andreas Cancer Center and Waters Edge provided exceptional care for the patient and family through this difficult journey.

His wife, parents and grandparents preceded him in death.
