Betty M. Bjornson, age 92, of Mankato, died on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Medo Lutheran Church in rural Pemberton. Visitation will be on Monday, August 15 from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Medo Lutheran Cemetery.
Betty was born on March 15, 1924 in Waseca County on the home farm to Carl and Clara (Fratzke) Koplen. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alma City. Betty attended country school in Waseca County and graduated from Pemberton High School. She graduated from Mankato Commercial College in 1942. On March 15, 1945, Betty was united in marriage to Curtis Bjornson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. They made their home in the rural Pemberton area. Betty worked for 25 years in the banking industry in Waseca, Jansesville, and Waldorf. In 1994, Betty and Curtis moved to Real Life Cooperative in Mankato. Betty was a member of Medo Lutheran Church, where she was active with the ladies aide and Sunday school classes. She was a member of the Sons of Norway. Betty enjoyed hardanger and rosemaling. Her talents included needlework and crocheting.
Betty is survived by two children, Calvin Bjornson and his wife, Sharon of rural Mapleton and Cynthia Carlson-Heins and her husband, Heath of Woodbury; five grandchildren, Christian, Aaron, and Andrea Bjornson, Andrew Carlson (Kari) and Stefanie Carlson-Lo (David); four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; two siblings, Glenn Koplen and his wife, Delsie and Lois Cahill; and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother and sister; and son-in-law.
