Lorraine Marie Mauer, age 95, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2016.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato with Father Paul van de Crommert officiating.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato.

Lorraine was born on May 14, 1921 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Zeno and Anna (Fazendin) Pauley and grew up in St. James, graduating from the St. James High School in 1939. Lorraine worked at Forster Furniture in St. James, then moved with her friend Margaret to take a job in the “big city” of Minneapolis. She was united in marriage to Harold Mauer on April 14, 1947 in St. James, and they moved to the city of North Mankato. She worked at Salet’s Department Store, and later as a Secretary at Northwestern Mutual until she retired. Lorraine and Harold spent over 60 happy years together.

Lorraine and Harold enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Europe, on summer family trips or touring with good friends. They visited historical sites throughout the eastern US and many national parks across the western states. They visited Hawaii and the Bahamas and toured Europe, visiting Switzerland, the land of Lorraine’s ancestry. They enjoyed ballroom dancing at the Kato Ballroom. Lorraine enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of multiple clubs. She was an active member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She was a member of Church women’s groups and helped with school lunches. Lorraine enjoyed shopping and knew how to find a good bargain, teaching her daughters the thrill of the hunt. She was a good cook, adventuring into new recipes, both traditional and ethnic, but her favorite thing to make for dinner was reservations!

Lorraine was a loving wife and mother. She especially valued family and friends, with many friendships lasting a lifetime. She liked conversing with everyone and was a good listener. She enjoyed get-togethers whatever the occasion, whether a family celebration or a neighborhood party. Her generous spirit and her smile will be remembered.

Lorraine is survived by two daughters, Gail Mauer of Shoreview and Monica (Kerry) Langsford of Roseville; two grandsons, James and Paul Langsford; 10 nieces and nephews, their spouses, and many grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents, Zeno and Anna; brother, Jim; sister, Elaine; sister-in-law, Kathryn Munson and her husband, Sidney Munson; nephew, Eric Munson; and grand nephew, Connor Munson.
