Bernard Clement Scheurer, age 84, passed away on July 23, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of service Thursday. Interment with Military Honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato.

Bernard was born January 8, 1932, to John R. and Grace (Sturm) Scheurer in Mankato. He attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School. On May 1, 1951 he married Marilyn M. Lavitschke, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War from 1952-1956. After the service, he was a heavy equipment operator and worked in the construction business with his father, John R. Scheurer and Sons Construction Company, until 1969. He then went to work with Lundin Construction and later SMC (Southern Minnesota Construction) companies until the time of his retirement in 1996.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A life member of the V.F.W. Post #950, serving as Post Commander during 1973-74. He was a member of the American Legion Post#518, North Mankato. He belonged to the Operating Engineers Local 49. He enjoyed: football, camping, traveling, fishing, and craftwork. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his loving family.

Bernard is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, of 65 years; four daughters, Katherine (Kevin Krosch) Kurth of Mankato, Debra (Dean) Gates of North Mankato, Gail (Greg) Hughes of Mankato, Teresa (Jeff Hughes) Gillis of Mankato; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Scheurer of Mankato; and nieces and nephews.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace; son-in-law, Gerard Kurth; grandson, Christopher Kurth; great-granddaughter, Isabelle Leal; his brothers, John and William; and his sisters, Bernice Rash and Corrine Borchert.
