Robert “Bob” Allen Ringhofer Jr., age 76, died Saturday, June 25, 2016 at North Memorial Hospital surrounded by family after weeks of complications from a stroke.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Owatonna. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary and continue one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.
Robert Allen Ringhofer was born February 27, 1940 to Robert Sr. and Barbara (Jasinski) Ringhofer in Owatonna, MN. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1958. He was a member of the football and wrestling teams, was a proud Eagle Scout, and showed ponies at the fair. He graduated from Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis. Robert married Diane Schmidt in 1962 in Owatonna, they later divorced. Robert married Iris Kotten on Feb 10, 1990 in North Mankato.
Bob was hired as North Mankato’s City Superintendent in 1963, at age 22. Bob went from being the youngest City Administrator to the eldest in terms of service after 33 years. He was proud of the community of North Mankato and thought it is one of the finest cities to raise a family. Family vacations were spent traveling to explore the sites of the country.
Bob was able to enjoy 21 years of retirement with Iris at their homes in Arizona, Black Hills, and Lake Elysian. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards, cooking and entertaining family and his many friends. He loved helping everyone with their projects. Bob was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and friend. He loved to sniff his coffee and smell the roses.
Bob is survived by his wife, Iris of Elysian; children, Julie Ringhofer of Okoboji, IA, Jackie (Todd) Snell of Mankato; step-children, Dale (Cathie) Kotten of Coon Rapids, Jim (Ana) Kotten of Becker, Janna Ites of North Mankato; two grandchildren, Hallie and Hunter Snell; five step-grandchildren, Christina, Emily and Alex Kotten, Ethan and Bailey Ites; three siblings, Bonnie (Woody) Wodrich, Richard (Carolyn) Ringhofer, Donnis Schueller; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Dick.
