Adele Umhoefer

Adele “Dee” Umhoefer, age 91, of North Mankato, MN died on June 11, 2016 in her home at Monarch Meadows, North Mankato.

A dual service will be held for Dee and her husband of sixty-eight years Vincent Eugene “Gene” Umhoefer at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 15, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato, MN. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Northview — North Mankato Mortuary, and again one hour before the funeral service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Hospice, Mankato.

Dee was born January 1, 1925 to Joseph and Ida (Ekstrom) Romsdahl at home on the family farm in rural St. James, MN.  She attended rural grade school and graduated from St. James High School where she was crowned homecoming queen in 1942. On November 19, 1947, Dee was united in marriage to Gene Umhoefer in St. James. Dee and Gene first lived in Mason City, Iowa, then moved to North Mankato in 1953 where they lived for the remainder of their lives.

Dee loved working on her beautiful flower gardens, as well as sewing, spending time in the kitchen and vacationing in the winter with their friends. Her real passion was golf, and she was a member of the Mankato Golf Club where she won several championships and awards. Dee also enjoyed bowling and playing cards with her close friends. More than anything, family was her greatest joy. Nothing made her happier than spending time with family at weekend get-togethers, holidays and watching countless grand-children’s sporting events. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were lucky to have someone in their lives who showed them so much love and left them with great family memories.

Dee is survived by children, Terry (Ron) Saye, Ann (Tom) Schuman, Burni (Phil) Krautkremer, Scott (Kim) Umhoefer, John (Sue) Umhoefer; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Needham Davidson; brothers, Kenneth (Judy) Romsdahl, Harold “Buddy” Romsdahl, Dick (Jane) Romsdahl; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Umhoefer and Lou Romsdahl; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, her parents, brother, Rollin, sister, Doris, brothers-in-law, Han Needham, Roy Hansen, and Wayne Umhoefer; sister-in-law, Janice Romsdahl; grandson, Michael, and great-grandson, Hunter.
