Everett Stokesbary, age 96, of Mankato and formerly of Lake Crystal, died on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at Pathstone Living in Mankato.

 

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday 2016, at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, with Rev. Debbie King Quale officiating.  Interment will be in Garden City Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the mortuary on Saturday. Memorials may be given to Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Lake Crystal.

 

Everett Stokesbary was born December 25, 1919 to Elvin and Cora (Yahnke) Stokesbary in Klemme, Iowa. He attended schools in the Klemme area until the 9th grade when the family moved to the Yahnke farm at Garden City, Minnesota. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1938. Everett was united in marriage to Glatha Hazel Diesch on February 15, 1940, in Garner, IA They started farming in 1941 in Garden City, bought a farm and moved to Lake Crystal in 1953 and farmed for 45 years. Everett was a Dekalb Seed dealer for many years being the sales leader in the district and played a large part in the Dekalb exhibit at Farmfest 76 in Lake Crystal.

 

Everett and Glatha traveled the US including Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico and spent many winters in Arizona where they built a large circle of friends from all over the country. Everett and Glatha retired from farming in 1985 and moved to Mankato three years later. Everett’s first summer and fall of retirement was spent helping his son Stan build a home. After “Retirement” Everett started a new career building boat displays and shelves which were sold at gift stores statewide.

 

Everett was a member of the Lake Crystal Methodist Church, a 55 year Mason and a past Master of Bethel Lodge 103 in Lake Crystal.

 

Everett is survived by two sons, Stan (Jo) Stokesbary of rural North Mankato and James Stokesbary of Lake Crystal; grandchildren, Jan (Mark) Kelley of Walnut Grove, MN, David (Sharon) Stokesbary of Mankato, MN, Jeffery (Audrey) Stokesbary of Eagan, MN, Jody (Mike) Maurer of Lake Crystal, MN, Jerry (Kelly) Stokesbary of Carver, MN, Jason (Dana) Stokesbary of Joplin, MO, Joy Grove of Washington, IL; eleven great-grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

 

Everett was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Glatha of 73 years on April 23, 2013; daughter-in-law, Chris Stokesbary; grandson, Brian Stanley Stokesbary; sister and brother-in-law, Ardith and Dale Parsons; and many other relatives and friends.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at Pathstone for their loving care of Everett and Glatha.
