Thomas “Tom” J. Quinn, 79, of Mankato, formerly of Madelia, died Monday, June 6, 2016.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2016, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mankato with Rev. John Kunz officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Tom was born on December 17, 1936, in Duluth, Minn., the son of William Edward and Lily Ann (Hale) Quinn. The family moved to Madelia where he attended Mater Dolorosa School and graduated from Madelia High School. He served four years in the United States Airforce and then owned and managed the family business, Hale’s Super Value in Madelia. Finally, he spent more than 10 years in sales before retirement.

On August 20, 1960, Tom married his childhood sweetheart, Jane (Osborne) Quinn and they were married for more than 55 years and raised 5 children. He loved watching all types of sports and lived to play golf. He spent many years attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and was deemed the legendary fan. Family and friends were important to Tom. He lit up a room, made people laugh, and was the life of the party.

Tom is survived by his wife, Jane Quinn of Mankato; four daughters, their spouses and children: Margaret (Dr. Timothy) Flor of Waseca and children, Katie, Meghan (Mike) Bowen, Patrick, and Hannah; Nancy (Roman) Kozak of Edina and children, Anna and Lydia; Patricia (Marc) Wertwijn of Edina and children, Caitlin, Brooke, and Tommy; and Mollie (David) Harig of Minnetonka and children, Isabelle, George, and Lillie Ann; and sister Patricia Borowski of Fairmont; and special friends Jim and Lisa Spier of Mankato; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bill Quinn; his brothers, Fr. Charles Quinn, Mike Quinn and John Quinn and other relatives and friends.
