Vincent Eugene was born on February 23, 1922 in Triumph, Minnesota to Clifford and Hulda (Laingen) Umhoefer.  He graduated from Triumph High School.  Gene served in the United States Navy from 1942-1946 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

On November 19, 1947, Gene was united in marriage to Adele “Dee” Romsdahl in St. James.  Gene and Dee moved to Mason City, IA where he started his career as a Sales Rep. for Jacob E. Decker.  He was transferred to Mankato and later began a long term career with Dunlop Meat Products. He began a second career in the mid 80’s with Oscar Mayer and Kraft until his retirement in 2004. Gene enjoyed golfing, working in his yard trying to master the perfect lawn, and watching his Minnesota sports teams - the Twins, Vikings and North Stars/Wild.  He was a proud family man who loved his kids and doted on all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a regular attendee at his grandchildren’s sporting events.  Family always gathered at Gene and Dee’s house on the weekends.

Gene was one of the original members of the Mankato Area Hockey Association Board and Fundraising Committee raising money for the construction of the Ice Palace (All Seasons Arena). He was also a member of American Legion, Post 11 and VFW Post, 950.

Gene is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dee; children, Terry (Ron) Saye, Ann (Tom) Schuman, Burni (Phil) Krautkremer, Scott (Kim) Umhoefer, and John (Sue) Umhoefer; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis Umhoefer; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wayne; grandson, Michael; and great-grandson, Hunter.
