Doug Mittelstadt, age 57, of North Mankato passed away Saturday May 21st, 2016, after a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy. Although his final years were difficult, he lived them with grace, humor, and without complaint.

Visitation will be Monday 5:00-7:00 p.m., (TODAY) at Hosanna as well as one hour prior the service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials preferred to Hosanna Lutheran Church, Mankato. Doug was born April 7, 1959, in Lakefield MN to Alvin and Arlene (Richter) Mittelstadt. He grew up on the family farm by Okabena. Doug graduated from Okabena High School in 1977.
Doug married his high school sweet heart, Sharon Rients in 1977. He attended Worthington Community College for two years where he played basketball and football, earning MJCAA All State as a defensive back his freshman year. He continued his education at Mankato State, graduating magna cum laude in 1981 with a BA in Construction Management.
Doug was a hard-working, soft-spoken man. He was always willing and ready to lend a hand to friends and family when asked. He worked construction his whole life. Most recently as a partner in 5 Star Drywall. He also built several houses in the Mankato area. He was a true craftsman and took great pride in his work.
He was an avid sportsman, playing city league softball and basketball. He made many friends through the years and especially enjoyed playing on a basketball team with his son and son in law. Doug’s faith was very important to him. He was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church since 1979.
Doug loved his family. Being a Grandpa was the best. Spoiling his grandchildren was so much fun. Summers at his Diamond Lake cabin with family and friends gave him many great memories. He enjoyed fishing and searching for those elusive walleyes.
