Harold “Gus” Francis Young, 79 of Mankato, died Friday, May 13, 2016 at Ecumen Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2016 at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Northview- North Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park with military honors.
Gus was born August 17, 1936 to Henry and Susan (Penner) Young in Bingham Lake, MN. He graduated from Loyola Catholic High School in 1954. Gus Served in the United States Air Force in Okinawa, Japan at the end of the Korean Conflict from 1955 to 1958. Upon his return, he married Grace Cook on November 8, 1958. Together they raised two children, Keith and Steve.
Gus worked at the Continental Can Company for over 45 years. In his free time and retirement, Gus enjoyed walking the mall, having coffee with friends at Target and McDonalds, putzing around the farm, and will be especially remembered for being the caretaker for his wife, Grace in her final years. Gus also loved spending time with his family. As a “character” in life, his stories and memories won’t be easily forgotten.
Gus is survived by his children, Keith (Cheryl) Young of Pray, MT; Steve (Cindy) Young of Vernon Center, MN; grandchildren, Joshua (Leslie-Ann) Young, David (Michelle) Young, Chelsey (Jeremy) Pasbrig, Courtney ( Reed Heard) Young, and Cammey Young; great-grandchildren, Briella, Judah, Adaela, and Hayden; and nieces, a nephew, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Grace in 2012; and his siblings.
