Wanda Anita Nelson

Wanda Anita Nelson died at her home on April 29th, 2016 in Mankato.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m on Thursday, May 5th at Christ the King Church in Mankato. Burial to follow at Woodland Hills Cemetery. Her grandchildren will be her casket bearers.

Wanda was born on May 25th, 1922 to Leslie and Ruth Carr at home on the farm.  She attended school and graduated in 1940. She married David Jean Nelson on October 8th, 1945.  They had 4 children, Linda Kiesling from Montana, Sherry Preusse from Minnesota, Bruce Nelson from Washington, and Brent Nelson from Wisconsin.  Wanda was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  Her joy in life was spending time with them.

Wanda worked at the Clear Lake telephone company before she was married. She was a stay-at-home mom, and when the kids grew up she worked at JcPenney for 6 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Chi, a sorority for working women.

Wanda was an avid golfer. She loved playing and was very good at it. She also liked to curl, play cards, and knit.  She taught all her grandkids to play cribbage.  Wanda loved playing with them until they started beating her. She still played, but complained she had taught them too well.

They lived in Rochester, MN for 17 years, and moved to Mankato where she lived until death.

In later life, she and Dave liked to spend their winters in New Braunfels, TX.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents; and her sister, Netha.
