Walter Herman Enzenauer

Walter Herman Enzenauer, 97 of North Mankato, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.

 

Visitation will be held from 3-6pm, Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary and also one hour prior to the service at church. Funeral Mass 10:30am, Monday, April 18, 2016 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Reverend Paul van de Crommert officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Mankato.

 

Walter was born October 30, 1918 in Swift County, near Kerkhoven, MN to Alvin and Elizabeth (Ziehl) Enzenauer. He attended country schools and lived and worked on farms until being drafted on May 9, 1941 into the 46th Army Engineers, building airstrips in the South Pacific. He served 4 years during WWII until being honorably discharged on August 18, 1945. He married Mildred Roesch on April 28, 1945 in Cheyenne, WY. In 1960, Walter built their home in North Mankato, one of the first in the Hilltop area. He worked as a carpenter and cement mason at Langness and Ario Construction until retiring in 1981. He was a lifelong member of American Legion 510 in Nicollet, VFW Post 9713 in Mankato, and Disabled American Veterans Post 10. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and playing cards.

 

He is survived by his wife of nearly 77 years, Mildred Enzenauer of North Mankato; daughter, Linda Cattrysse of Mankato; son, Ron (Gloria) Enzenauer of Savage, MN; grandchildren, Matt Cattrysse, Jenny (Oscar) Enzenauer Castaneda, Emily (Clint) Sticha, Theresa Enzenauer, Michael Enzenauer, Becca Enzenauer; great-grandchildren, Xander Sticha and Penelope Enzenauer Castaneda; and sister, Alice Skipper.

 

Walt was preceded in death by his brother, Rueben Enzenauer.
