Donna L. Swenson, age 89, of Mankato, died Saturday, April 9, 2016 with family at her side, at Pathstone Crossing, Mankato.
A Celebration of Donna’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Grace Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Dr. Scott E. Olson, officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the church. Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery, Mankato. Memorials may be given to the Donna Swenson Scholarship Fund – to benefit the advancement of Pathstone Employees. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Donna Lou was born April 17, 1926 in Waseca, Minnesota to Frank Eugene and Sophia (Christ) Bell. Donna graduated from Waseca High School in 1944. She worked as a secretary before her marriage to Donald B. Swenson on September 4, 1948 at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca. They lived in Minneapolis and Milwaukee, WI while Don was in school for his medical degree. They moved to Waseca where Don practiced medicine with his father and in 1955 they moved to Mankato, where he started his private practice.
Donna was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Ladies church circle, Mankato Garden Club, PEO Chapter DA, member of the Pathstone Auxiliary Board and a volunteer at Pathstone Living and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed reading, gardening, walking, traveling, and being with her family.
Donna is survived by her children, Ann Pierce and husband, Clay of Ames, Iowa, Robert Swenson and wife, Jenni of Chaska; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Frankie Mae Stevenson of Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law, Barbara Gauger of Waseca; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Sophia; husband, Donald Swenson, M.D., on May 6, 2000; son, James Swenson on March 6, 2008; brother, Robert Bell; sister, Bonnie (Jack) Carson; two brother-in-laws, Ronald Gauger and Bill Stevenson.
