Oscar “Ozzie” Chabot, age 77, of Kasota, died on Sunday, April 3, 2016 surrounded by his family after a brief stay at Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 9 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Rev. Timothy Reker officiating. Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Burial with military honors will be at Kasota Hill Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church or the Kasota Fire Department.
Ozzie was born on May 23, 1938 in Quebec, Canada to Phillip and Dora (Duchanea) Chabot. His childhood was spent on a farm in Olean, Vermont. Ozzie served in the United States Air Force. He obtained his small aircraft pilot’s license and enjoyed trips with family and friends. Ozzie was united in marriage to Dorinda Hagen, together they raised six children primarily in Kasota “on the hill” with horses, goats and chickens. They later divorced.
A salesman at heart after working in various capacities, Ozzie started his own business, Custom Chemical Company and at the time of his retirement, was named Lakeland Industrial Chemicals, based out of Kasota. He prided himself in offering his customers products cheaper than “the big guys.” Ozzie was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and enjoyed his church community. He enjoyed his friends and family, music, dances, boating and tubing, camping, his motorcycle, talking politics, and most of all his grandchildren.
Ozzie is survived by his six children, Dale (Cheryl) of Cleveland, MN, Cindy (Tim) Teske of Winona, MN, Rachel Coughlan of Mankato, Mike (Linda) of Kasota, Joan (Brian) Streit of Mankato, and David (Megan) of Owatonna; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Louise and brother, Ray, both residing in Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Buczkowski and young brother, Robert.
Ozzie will be remembered for his sky blue eyes, great smile, and laugh and zest for life.
Ozzie’s family would like to thank the great staff at Mayo Health System Hospital, Mankato and Hospice and Hillcrest Health Care Center and their friendly residents.
