Gerald Joseph “Jerry” Weingartz, age 58, of Mankato, died Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Dennis Heiden officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hosanna Lutheran Church.
Jerry was born July 14, 1957, in Mankato to Victor and Joyce (Karels) Weingartz. He was a graduate of Mapleton High School and received an Associate’s Degree in Graphic Arts from the Mankato Area VoTech Institute in North Mankato. Jerry was employed with Navitor, a division of Taylor Corp, for 35 years. He was united in marriage to Susan Walsvick DePew on October 14, 2011, in Mankato. Jerry was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, MN Vikings and Twins sports, spending time with family and friends, and was considered an excellent grill master.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sue of Mankato; two step-daughters, Katie (Casey) Boone of Mankato and Kelli (fiancé, Andrew Praxl) Meyer of Janesville; three step-grandchildren, Alex and Desmond Boone and Tanner Meyer; sister, Michelle “Shelly” (Mike) Zimmerman of Mapleton; three nephews, James (Heather) Zimmerman and their children, Cadence and Kyro, Todd Zimmerman, and Kevin Zimmerman; four aunts, Dot Maurer of Lake Crystal, Loretta (Alan) Sigafus of Mankato, Mary Alice Weingartz of North Mankato, and Alma Karels of Grantsberg, WI; one uncle, Chris Karels of Lake Crystal; and mother-in-law, Margaret Walsvick of Mankato.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and other aunts and uncles.
