Dr. S.M. “Stanley” Harmon, age 91 of Mankato, died Wednesday March 30, 2016.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. Sunday at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary. Visitation also one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Burial Pilgrims Rest. Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church / Endowment fund.
Stanley Merle Harmon was born November 14, 1924 to Luther and Laura (Bilstad) Harmon in Kensett, Iowa. He attended Bethany College in Mankato and received his degree in Optometry from Northern Illinois College of Optometry. Stanley served his country in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He was united in marriage to June Prey on September 9, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. Dr. Harmon began his career at Prey’s Optometric Center and later opened his own practice, S.M. Harmon Optometrist.
Stanley was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council and Finance Committee / Board of Education.
Stanley is survived by his two daughters, Carol Harmon and Michal (Loren) Clobes all of Mankato; three grandchildren, Jevne, Clobes, Jennifer (Daryl) Thul, Jonathan (Dawn) Clobes; great-grandchildren, Michael, Nathan, Joshua, Abigail, David, Hanna, Andrew, Hannalora, Andreas, Oliver, and Caleb, two great-great-grandchildren, Lillyanna and Liam; sister, Lois (Donald) Meier of Wisconsin; nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three brothers.
