Genevieve Ruth Freeberg, age 87, of North Mankato, died Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at her home.

Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 14, 2016, at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato.  Interment will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato.  Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. on Sunday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Genevieve was born February 12, 1929, in Lyra Township to Herman and Maggie (Carpenter) Manthey.  She attended school in Garden City.  Genevieve was united in marriage to Arvid Freeberg on October 17, 1964, in Mankato.  She was self-employed as a day care provider for 35 years.  Genevieve was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato.  She enjoyed taking care of children, cooking, playing cards and bingo, and going on casino trips.

Genevieve is survived by her three children, Judy (David) Braam of Lake Crystal, James Freeberg of Mankato, and Julie (Tom) Stier of Mankato; ten grandchildren, Melinda (LeRoy) Flitter, Brian Braam, John (Christy) Freeberg, Sean (Greta) Anderson, Jennifer (Jared) Burmesch, Jamie (special friend, Brittany Murphy) Keenan, Telly (Ammie) Freeberg, Tonya (Tim) Smith, Travis Stier, and Tanner Stier; 21 great-grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews, and numerous day care children who she loved as her own.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arvid in 1989; two children, Carol Keenan and Linda Hollnagel; a grandson, Patrick Freeberg; two sisters, Annetta Ward and Betty Hagen; and six brothers, Ed, Francis, Gale, Dwane, Malcolm, and Donnie Manthey.
