Edwin Lee Mielke, 84 of North Mankato, died Monday, February 29, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato.
Visitation will be held from 4-8pm, Friday, March 4, 2016 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am, Saturday, March 5 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Edwin was born September 17, 1931 in Pipestone, MN to Edwin and Kathryn (Kelly) Mielke. He entered active duty with the U.S. Army on February 26, 1952 and proudly served during the German Occupation until being honorably discharged in 1954. On April 15, 1961, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Zollner in Sleepy Eye. Edwin worked as a Lineman for McLeod Coop Power for over 20 years until he retired on August 13, 1993. In his spare time, Ed enjoyed golfing, playing sheep head, and traveling across the U.S. with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Mielke of North Mankato; children, Carolyn Mielke of North Mankato, Camille Mielke of Richfield, and Edwin (Sherrilee) Mielke of Mankato; granddaughter, Taylor Mielke; siblings, Bill Mielke, Gatian Sweeney, Kathleen Charitat, Virginia Beck, Gene Mielke, and Dan Mielke; and many nieces and nephews. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Allen and Charles Mielke.
