Richard Nelson

Richard “Dick” Dale Nelson, age 82, of Rapidan Dam, MN died Wednesday February 17, 2016 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.

Visitation will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapidan, MN on Monday February 22, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Military Honors with a Sharing of Memories starting at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Minnesota Rett Syndrome Research Association, Partners for Affordable Housing, and Loaves and Fishes Food Bank. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Nelson was born on April 3, 1933 to Claude Garrett and Averil Dorothia (Prince) Nelson in Mankato, MN. He graduated from Rapidan High School in 1952. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country. On November 29, 1960 he was united in marriage to Iris Louise Liefer in Jordan, MN.

Dick was a lifetime farmer in the Rapidan area, a School Bus Driver and member of Calvary Lutheran Church and the Lake Crystal American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards, travel and camping.

Dick is survived by his wife Iris; two children; Byron David Nelson and Louise Maria Nelson-Howard both of Rapidan Dam, MN; six grandchildren, Austin, Quade, Andrew, Jacqueline, Rachael and Henry; his brother George Robert Nelson of Brainerd, MN; sister-in-law Anita Jean Nelson, Georgetown Texas; nieces and nephews; Gregg, Laurie, Kathy, Scott, Claudia, Heidi and Becky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Claude James Nelson and sister-in-law Midge Nelson.
