Elizabeth “Betty” M. Green, age 87, of North Mankato, died Monday, February 8, 2016, at Monarch Meadows after a long illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2016, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mankato with Fr. John Kunz, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Private Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Elizabeth Marie was born February 22, 1928, to Leonard and Agnes (Kosel) Theisen in St. Joseph, Minnesota. She graduated in 1946 from Apollo High School in St. Cloud. Betty worked for Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis where she met her future husband, George E. Green. They were married on August 28, 1954, in St. Cloud. Betty and George moved several times as a family from Longmont/Boulder, CO, to Spokane, WA, to Nicollet, MN, to Washington D.C., and finally to Mankato in 1973. Betty was a homemaker for her family of five children and an active member and volunteer of her church, St. John the Baptist. Betty had an artistic flair and enjoyed painting, playing bridge and 500, wintering with George in St. Simons Island, GA, but she cherished time with her family and grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, George E. Green of North Mankato; five children, Richard (Mallorie) Green of Salt Lake City, UT, Susan (Wayne) Martin of Kansas City, MO, John (Kim) Green of Shakopee, MN, Mike Green (Luann Darnell-Virk) of Rochester, MN, and Paula (Rahn) Larson of Windom, MN; nine grandchildren, Kollin (Jennifer) Green, Tyson (Amber) Green, Kaitlyn (Justin) Fitz, Katherine Martin, David Martin, Lindsay (Tony) Pastrana, Kyle (Alyssa) Green, Tim Larson, and Andrew Larson; five great-grandchildren, Haley Martin, Trinity Green, Zoe Green, Selah Green, Kareese Green; brother, Urban (Marion) Theisen of St. Cloud; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.
