Eleanor Mary Salfer, age 97, of Mankato, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Laurels Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 p.m., Friday, January 29, 2016, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Mankato.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at the church.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.  Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Eleanor was born December 27, 1918, in Mankato to John and Eleanora (Schulte) Herz.  She was a 1936 graduate of Good Counsel Academy in Mankato.  Eleanor was united in marriage to James Salfer on October 26, 1943, in Mankato.  She was a homemaker for her family.  Eleanor also assisted with their farm and was employed with Immanuel – St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato.  She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and VFW Auxiliary.  Eleanor enjoyed crocheting and spending time with family and friends.

Eleanor is survived by her son, Gerald (Ann) Salfer of Mankato; daughter, Jane (Glen) Cyphers of Waterloo, IA; daughter-in-law, Myla Salfer of Eagle Lake; grandchildren, Michael Salfer, Matt (Hannah) Salfer-Marzinske, Kendra (Eli) Vogel, and Callie Cyphers; six great-grandchildren; also nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James in 1999; two sons, Tom and Richard; four brothers, Herb, Cliff, Alphonse, and Francis “Bud”; and two sisters, Rosella and Elvera.
