Bonita “Bonnie” Grace Mickelson, age 86, of Butternut, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Butternut. Visitation will be from 9:30 -11:00 a.m., Thursday at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Bonita was born May 20, 1929 to Russel and Lona (Keech) Elkins in Madelia. She grew up in Madelia and graduated from Madelia High School. She married Philip E. Mickelson on August 23, 1947 in rural Madelia. A member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Bonnie was a past Sunday school teacher. When not working on the family farm, Bonnie enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting, and baking Norwegian Foods.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Philip; daughter, Peggy VanGuilder of Mankato; son, Joe (JJ) Mickelson of Butternut; three grandchildren, Kris (Bob) Klein, Terry (Joy) VanGuilder, and Josh Mickelson; three great-grandchildren, Michael and Eryn Klein, Brayden VanGuilder; three siblings, Ronald Elkins, Dotta Jean Cole, and Merton (Cathy) Elkins; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Brad VanGuilder; and extended family.
