Mavis Mae (Behnke) Treanor, age 81, of Mapleton died surrounded by family on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016 at St John Lutheran Church, Mapleton with Rev. Vicki Hultine officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at St John Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Sterling Cemetery. Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mavis Mae Behnke was born at home September 6, 1934 in Lyra Township to Otto and Rose (Lavitchke) Behnke and raised in Good Thunder. She attend the Sprague Country School and later graduated from the Good Thunder High School in 1952. Mavis continued her education at the Mankato Business College. After graduation she worked at the First National Bank of Mankato. On October 13, 1956, she married David Lloyd Treanor at St John Lutheran Church. They resided in Minnesota Lake for several years until they moved to the home farm in rural Mapleton for 50 years before moving to the city of Mapleton.
Mavis was a member of St John Lutheran Church where she was baptized and later confirmed on July 4, 1948. Mavis was active in the Lutheran Women's Circle and also enjoyed curling at the Heather Curling Club. Mavis worked for 35 years at the Mapleton Community Home. Her other interests included gardening, quilting, canning, her flower gardens and spending time with family and friends.
Mavis’ quiet gentle presence and humble spirit is a lasting legacy to her family and all that knew her.
Mavis will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 59 years, David; son, John (Sandra Pluym) Treanor of Mapleton; daughters, Verminda (Bruce) Annis of Kasota and Julie (Kevin) Vetter of St Peter; son, Jeffery Treanor of Mapleton; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; sisters, IvaDell Armstrong, Fern (Duane) Vanderford, and Bonnie Schultz; brother, Dale (Pam) Behnke.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Rose Behnke; mother & father in-law, Lloyd and Meda (Stevens) Treanor; brothers, Duane and Robert; sister-in-laws, Ursula and Carlene; brothers-in-law, Darrell Schultz and Robert Armstrong; daughter-in-law, Cathy (Fitzgerald) Treanor; nephews, Dennis and Gary Schultz and James Behnke.
