Peter W. Blethen

Peter William Blethen, 60, of Madison Lake passed away at his home on Friday, January 22, 2016, two years after he was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Mankato Golf Club from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 to visit with the family and to share memories of Pete. A Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 p.m. will follow at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 937 Charles Avenue, Mankato.

Peter was born July 5, 1955 in Rochester, Minnesota to William C. Blethen and Corol (Toy) Blethen. Peter graduated from Mankato High in 1973 and The University of Colorado-Boulder in 1978. Peter married Nancy Boyum in 1977. Peter worked as a Land Surveyor in Colorado until 1983 when he and Nancy returned to the Mankato area to raise their three children. Peter worked for Bolton & Menk as a land surveyor and survey department manager for 31 years. He retired in 2014.

Pete’s family meant the world to him. He was a wonderful, loving, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He lived his life with enthusiasm. His special place was at “the lake” where he enjoyed water skiing, walking in the woods, or a glass of wine on the deck. He was an outdoor enthusiast and he had an adventuresome spirit. He learned to fly, he loved to travel, he enjoyed canoe trips to The Boundary Waters, skiing in Colorado, water skiing, and golf.

Peter is survived by his wife, Nancy, his son Sam and daughter-in-law, Shady of Vail, Colorado; his daughter, Molly Weinandt and son-in-law, Luke Weinandt and their children, Max and Emma of Mankato; and his son, Nick, of Mankato. He is also survived by his brother Bailey Blethen of Mankato, his sister, Jane Blethen of Novato, California and many special in-laws, nephews, nieces and good friends.

The family would suggest memorials go to Mayo Health Systems Hospice.
