Darrell Lee Baumgard, age 57, of Amboy, died Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center in Mankato following a short battle with cancer.

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Willow Creek, rural Vernon Center, with Rev. John Bennett officiating.  Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Monday at Lake Crystal Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.  Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery South, Willow Creek.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.

Darrell was born December 7, 1958, in Madelia to Melvin and Dorothy (Starke) Baumgard.  He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Vernon Center.  He was a graduate of Wellcome Memorial High School in Garden City.  Darrell was united in marriage to Debra Sulflow on February 14, 1981, in Madelia.  They later divorced.  Darrell was a farmer, drove school bus for St. John’s Willow Creek School, and worked for Loveall Construction in Winnebago.  He was employed with Loe’s Oil in Mankato for the past 14 years.  Darrell was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church – Willow Creek.  He enjoyed farming, hunting, sports, and spending time with family and friends.

Darrell is survived by his son, Andrew Baumgard of Lewisville; former wife, Debra Baumgard of Lake Crystal; sister, Sharon (Bill) McDermott of Winnebago; brothers, Gary (Sharon) Baumgard of Vernon Center, Randy (friend, Sue Scholljegerdes) Baumgard of Waseca, and Wayne (Cheryl) Baumgard of Mapleton; nieces, Kelly (friend, Clint Butler) McDermott of Huntley, Amy (friend, Nick Gould) Baumgard of Vernon Center, and Lisa (friend, Nick Mortenson) Baumgard of Mapleton; nephews, Justin Baumgard of Vernon Center, Dustin Baumgard of Waseca, Chris (friend, Marissa Lee) Baumgard of Mapleton, and Logan Baumgard of Mankato; friend, Liz Blekestad of Lake Crystal and also many other friends.

He was preceded by his son, Adam in 2000; mother, Dorothy in 2012; and father, Melvin in 2015.
