We are saddened to share the passing of Susan Troldahl, age 55, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Susan passed away at her home in Minneapolis in the presence of her loving family on December 26th, 2015, after an extended battle with breast cancer.
A Celebration of Susie’s Life will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 720 S. 2nd Street, Mankato, with Rev. Jay Dahlvang officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Thursday. The family prefers memorials made in Susan’s honor be to either The Friends of Linden Church in Hanska, Minnesota or Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Born in Mankato on May 2, 1960, Susan was the daughter of Charles and Loen (Ahlness) Troldahl. Sue grew up in West Mankato. She was a Member of Brett’s Department Store Teen Board and also worked as a model in high school and college. Sue was a 1978 graduate of Mankato West High School. She attended Mankato State University graduating with a degree in Journalism and Communications. At MSU, Susan was Co-Editor of “The Reporter” University newspaper. She began her advertising career in Los Angeles at Bullock’s Department Stores as an advertising copywriter. She continued her career in advertising for Los Angeles based Robinson’s Department Stores as Senior Fashion copywriter. Moving to Portland, Susan was Marketing Director for Smith’s stores in the Pacific Northwest. She finished her career in Minneapolis as Marketing Director for Trend Enterprises Educational Products, until ill health forced her to retire.
“Susie”, or ‘Buttercup” as she was known to her family, was loving and kind, ever-curious, compassionate and wickedly smart. Our little sister entertained everyone who had the privilege to know her with her quick-wit and sense of humor. Susie was loved and admired by everyone, and well known for her generosity and capacity for sharing. She was fiercely loyal to “The Scarlet Gals”, a group of friends with beginnings back in elementary school. Independent until the very end, she always put the needs and concerns of everyone else she loved first in her life. She stood up to cancer and met every health challenge with strength and dignity.
Susie is survived by her parents, Charles and Loen Troldahl; sister, Stephanie Troldahl (Bob Sullivan); brothers, Barry (Margaret) Troldahl and Todd Troldahl (Scott Richards); nephews, Adam and Chad; and niece, Amanda.
