Glenn Lawrence Walter, age 98, of Mankato, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015, at Pathstone Crossing.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 21, 2015, at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the mortuary. Interment will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Mankato.
Glenn was born to Arthur and Mabel (Anderson) Walter on May 1, 1917, in Delano. Glenn’s father died when Glenn was very young. Glenn and his mother then moved to Mankato. Glenn grew up in Mankato and married Margaret Inez Edwards on Feb. 16, 1940. He enlisted in the US Army during WWII. He served with the 205th Field Artillery as part of a 90 mm artillery crew through six campaigns in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. After the war, Glenn worked as a police officer with the Mankato Police Department, retiring after 21 years of service. He then worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation as a member of the joint seal crew for the next 14 years. Glenn’s first wife, Inez passed away in 1970. He married Mae B. Andengaard in 1975. She passed in 2007. Glenn was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was a life member of Walter Strand Post 950 VFW, American Legion Post 11, and Minneopa Golf Club.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Inez and Mae; an infant brother, Allan; half-brothers, Clarence, Gerald, Everett, and Emmet Schlingmann; half-sisters, May Smith and Mabel Hacker. He is survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and a brother-in-law.
