Carol L. Hohenstein, age 84, of Lake Crystal, died on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.
Memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Private family burial will be at the Vernon Center Cemetery. Northview-North Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the Shriner’s Hospital or the donor’s choice.
Carol was born on August 12, 1931 to Fred and LaVina (Wilke) Schutt in Stirum, North Dakota. She graduated from Garden City High School. On August 19, 1950 Carol was united in marriage to Delphin Hohenstein in Vernon Center. Carol was very involved in her church and served on the ladies aid and taught Sunday school. She belonged to her neighborhood mother’s club. Carol enjoyed quilting, sewing, and crafting. She liked reading, cooking, baking, putting puzzles together, and listening to music.
Carol is survived by her husband, Delphin of Lake Crystal; children, Les Hohenstein of Garden City, Jean Abernathy of Lake Crystal, Ruth (Roger) Bechel of Eagle Lake, and Amy (Donald) Starzinski of Brainerd; grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Lockner of Lake Elmo, Jason (Velma) Abernathy of Puyallup, WA, Melissa (William) Burkel of Anchorage, AK, Nathan (Elizabeth) Bechel of North Mankato, Ariel Starzinski of Minneapolis, Maren Starzinski of St. Paul, and Alec Starzinski of San Francisco, CA; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Duane (Delores) Schutt of Winnebago; sisters-in-law, Joan Schutt of Lake Crystal and Elizabeth Schutt of Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Myron, Harris, and Jerry (Patricia); and great-granddaughter, Cora Burkel.
