Elmer John Carl Schimmele, age 99, of Good Thunder, went to his Eternal home on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at the Mapleton Community Home.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 11, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder, with Rev. Rudolph Maurer officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior at the church.  Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.  Mankato Mortuary is handling the arrangements.  Memorials are preferred to the family.

Elmer was born April 3, 1916, in Beauford Township to Rudolph and Sophia (Fisher) Schimmele.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Philippines.  Elmer was united in marriage to Elverna Sohre on August 28, 1953, in Good Thunder.  They were blessed with a son, Gene in 1956.

Elmer was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder.  He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, old time music, dancing, playing cards, and a cold beer.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and always brought gifts when visiting.  Elmer loved life and lived it his way to the fullest.  

Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Elverna Schimmele of Good Thunder; son, Gene (Lori) Schimmele of Buffalo; grandchildren, Chris (Ann) Hill of Becker, Chad Schimmele of Buffalo, Kelly (Andrew) Lathrop of Big Lake, and Kayla (Joseph) Maring of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren, Kiersten, Paige, and Mason; brother, Donald Schimmele of Sartell; also many other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Viola (Gerald) Johnson; and sister-in-law, Shirley Schimmele.
