Thomas E. Kerby, 77, of North Mankato died Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. Tom was born May 14, 1938 to Thomas J. and Anna (Kanhnke) Kerby in Redwood Falls, MN. He moved to the Mankato area in the 1980s and most recently in North Mankato. Tom worked for many years as a supported worker at MRCI Mankato. Some of Tom’s favorite activities included playing softball, bowling, fishing, running track with the Special Olympics, and attending LEEP dances and bingo night. He also loved to listen to Johnny Cash and watch Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Tom will be remembered for his weekly visits to Buster’s Sorts bar for a Schell’s beer and burger. Tom’s friendly personality and big smile will be greatly missed. Tom is survived by his brother Lawrence Kerby of Redwood Falls, MN; brother-in-law, Jim Murray of Glenco, MN; niece, Marie; nephews, Michael, Ed, and Patrick; several great-nieces and nephews; and the staff and his housemates at REM. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen Wineger and Claire Murray; and brother, John Kerby. Services for Tom will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato, MN 56003. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Tom will be laid to rest at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Seaforth, MN.
