Larry M. Minkel, 72, Mapleton, died, Monday, November 23, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.
Funeral service will be held, Friday, November 27, 2015 at Beauford United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Clint Firstbrook officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Beauford Oak Hill Cemetery. Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that you wear Crane Lake or fishing attire to the service, per Larry’s request.
Larry was born March 7, 1943 in Mankato to Merrill and Audree (Sutherland) Minkel. After country school, he attended Mapleton High School. On October 29, 1960, Larry was united in marriage to Betty Treanor at the United Church in Mapleton. Larry was a farmer all of his life in Mapleton. He took pride in operating Mapleview Produce and providing “the world’s best sweet corn.” Larry was an avid curler, he enjoyed the competitive aspect of the game. He loved hunting with “his boys” and fishing. He enjoyed spending time on Crane Lake in northern Minnesota. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Most of all, he loved having family around.
Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty; three children, Greg (Shelly) Minkel, Deb (Marc) Briar, and Todd Minkel; grandchildren, Shalane Springer, Tyler Minkel, Courtney Minkel, McKarah Schaefer, Amber Minkel, Braeden Schaefer, Cassie Minkel, and Sophia Minkel; one great-grandson, Keeyan Springer; sister, Marlys Jackson; nephew, Bryan (Jayne) Kantack; niece, Kim (Dana) Krengel; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Howard and Gladys Treanor; son, Jeffery Lynn; grandson, Brooks Lewis Minkel; and brother-in-law, Jobie Jackson.
Larry’s family would like to thank the entire staff, nurses and doctors at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato for their amazing, professional, and loving care during his stay.
