Main Street Lake Crystal, MN 56055 (507) 726-6161 LaVerne May Greenough, age 88, of Lake Crystal, died peacefully on Friday, November 6, 2015, at Crystal Seasons in Lake Crystal. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Butternut. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at the Garden City Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church or Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice - Mankato. LaVerne was born in Winthrop, MN June 17, 1927 to Walter and Hazel (Engman) Matthes of rural Gaylord, MN. She was baptized at the Norwegian Grove Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church on Pentecost June 1st, 1941. She attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Gaylord High School in 1945. She worked in Mankato for several years. LaVerne was united in marriage to Jim D. Greenough on December 11, 1948 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Gaylord, MN. They farmed in rural Garden City for 14 years and then purchased a farm 5 miles NW of Lake Crystal where they farmed until retirement. LaVerne was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Butternut. She was active in the Ladies Aid and served on Altar Guild for several years. She was also an active member of the Ladies Home Extension group. LaVerne enjoyed working with her husband on the farm and going fishing together. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, crocheting, drawing, cooking and being near her loving family. LaVerne is survived by her two sons, John and wife Kathleen Greenough of rural Lake Crystal and William Greenough of Burnsville; five special grandchildren, Kristina (Jared) Sorenson of Mankato, Michael (Janelle) Greenough, rural Lake Crystal, Matthew (Tammi) Greenough rural Lake Crystal, Stacy May (Dan) MacLean New Hampton, NH, and Jessica Jean (Ryan) Keenan Haverhill, MA; 13 special great-grandchildren, Robert, Rachel, Reagan, and Rinnah Sorenson, Kaitlyn, Paige, and Alyssa Greenough, Carter and Carson Greenough, Tyler and Brady MacLean and Wyatt and Rebecca Keenan; two sisters, Betty (Lester) Peterson of Winthrop, MN and Doris (Edgar) Leske of rural Gaylord; two brothers-in-law, Wally Pape of Garden City MN, Wilton Grieger of Inver Grove Heights, MN and many nieces, nephews and cousins. LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; and two sisters, Delilah Kintzi, Helen Grieger; and sister-in-law, Jane Pape.
