Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary 2060 Commerce Drive North Mankato, MN 56003 (507) 388-2288 Paul Hanly, age 22, of Mankato, passed away of respiratory complications on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, in his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato, with Fr. John Kunz officiating the celebration of Paul's far too abbreviated time with us. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Private interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Paul was born December 14, 1992, in Mankato to Michael and Diane (Groenke) Hanly. He graduated from Mankato East High School in June of 2011, having participated in Soccer, Diving, and Tennis, lettering in Diving and Tennis, and serving as a Diving Captain. Paul worked several jobs, including seasonal work at Fun.com and as a lift operator for Mount Kato, but his favorite was working summers for The City of Mankato in the Parks Department. Paul had an infectious smile, and a desire to bring happiness and love to all he met. In 2011, Paul met the love of his life, Elizabeth "Liz" Meyer. Through Liz, Paul became an avid Minnesota Wild fan. He and Liz attended numerous games, and woke the sleeping fan in Paul's parents, Diane and Mike. Along with Wild Hockey, Paul enjoyed table tennis, motorcycling, billiards, target shooting, and tinkering with any old thing he could take apart to figure out how they worked. This often became convenient when a handyman was needed to fix something or just help around the house. Paul had a most inquiring mind. Just as Liz introduced Paul to hockey, Paul introduced Liz to a pastime he grew up loving with his parents and brother, Kevin, and that was fishing. Whenever possible, Liz would join the Hanly family as we fished our favorite lake. Paul is survived by his fiancé, Liz Meyer of New Ulm; parents, Mike and Diane Hanly of Mankato; brother, Kevin (Megan) Hanly of North Mankato; niece and godchild, Tilyr Marie Hanly; maternal grandparents, Frank and Vert Groenke of Mankato; uncles, Tim Hanly of Brooklyn Park, Bill (Lynda) Hanly of Brooklyn Park, and Doug (Shelly) Groenke of Mankato; aunt, Donna (Gene) Birr of Kasota; cousins, Shane (Rebecca) Hanly of Rosemount, Dustin (Audra and daughter, Harper) Hanly of Brooklyn Park, Brent Groenke of Leadville, Colorado, Cody Groenke of Mankato, Tiffaney Lutter (daughter, Jayden Danielson), and Jenna and Justin Birr of Kasota. He is also survived by a very elite group of loving and understanding friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jim and Marlys Hanly.
