George Aaby Boyum

Boyum, age 79, of Mankato, died on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Water's Edge surrounded by family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary with Rev. Jay Dahlvang officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Northview. George was born on March 11, 1936 in Rochester to Enoch and Nora (Aaby) Boyum. He graduated from Kasson High School. George attended Waldorf Junior College in Iowa before serving in the United States Navy. He then graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in biology. George was united in marriage to Jan Cox in 1967 and they later divorced but always remained great friends. George owned and operated Jarraff Industries Inc. in St. Peter from 1978-2000. In 2000, George moved to Sterling, Alaska. He was an avid downhill skier and sailor. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. George is survived by his daughter, Heidi Boyum and her son, Mitchell Boyum; son, Lee Boyum and his daughter, Caitlin Bitzer; sister-in-law, Joyce Ann Boyum; one niece and two nephews and their families; and former spouse and friend, Jan Boyum. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Syvert Boyum.
