Mankato Mortuary 1001 N. Riverfront Drive Mankato, Minnesota 56001 507-388-2202 Jerome Pahl Cornish passed away unexpectedly in Duluth, Minnesota on Wednesday September 30th, 2015 from a heart attack at the age of 73. Born in Vernon Center on March 3rd, 1942 to Wesley and Irene (Pahl) Cornish, he was one of 9 siblings. From a young age, Jerry has always enjoyed hunting and fishing and found comfort in the great outdoors. He also loved sharing those experiences with his close friends and relatives, from trapping game with cousins and brothers to hauling his children to fishing holes. He met his wife Rita in Minneapolis in 1967 and they married in 1969. After starting a family, they settled down in Vernon Center where Jerry got a job with Modern Grain, winning several awards for salesmanship. In 1984 he opened his own business, supplying the mid-west with ag equipment. He loved sitting around a campfire and recanting stories, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, yearly fishing trips to Canada and road trips with his wife. As those who knew Jerry can attest, he was a story teller, a creator of puns and limericks, an avid outdoors-man, and a man who cared deeply about the well-being of others, often staying awake at night thinking about how to help solve peoples problems. Whether you knew him as Jerome, Jerry, Chief, Dad, Gramps or Bubbie Birdie he always held a special, singular relationship with each individual yet maintained his same care and compassion equally. Jerry was preceded in death by Irene (mother) Cornish, Wesley (father) Cornish, Gregory (brother) Cornish and Kerri Jo (daughter) Cornish. He is survived by his wife Rita, his 3 children; Angela (Kevin) Renner, Jerrod Cornish and Christina (Seth) Nelson, seven brothers and sisters; Sharon (Gordy) Larson, Wayne (Kathleen) Cornish, Maureen Sens, Michelle (William) Negaard, Anthony Cornish, Michael Cornish, Denise (Robert) Grant, 4 beautiful grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday October 6th at the Mankato Mortuary from 4-7 pm. Service will be on Wednesday October 7th at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery.
