Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary 2060 Commerce Drive North Mankato, MN 56003 Monroe David "Monty" Purrier, age 73, of Mankato, died Saturday, September 26, 2015, at his home. A Celebration of Life for both Monty and his wife, Mary who died earlier this year on March 24, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church in North Mankato. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Northview - North Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church. Monty was born December 19, 1941, in Mankato to David and Erna (Grabow) Purrier. He was a 1959 graduate of Mankato High School and also attended Mankato State University. Monty was united in marriage to Mary Orness on March 11, 1962, in Mankato. Monty was employed with Continental Can, Super America, Mankato State University, and owned Purrier Upholstery. He was a member of Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church, where he was active in the choir and played the hand bells. Monty was a past member of the Riverblenders. He ran for State Senate in 1976. Monty enjoyed old cars, antique toys, and coaching youth sports. Monty is survived by his four children, Amanda (Paul) Collis of Mankato, Parker (Barb) Purrier of Rochester, Kalli (Jeff) Christen of St. Cloud, and Paiton (Kara) Purrier of St. Michael; eight grandchildren, Kelsie (John) Zellar, Kayla Johnson, Evan and Bethany Purrier, Elliot and Kyle Christen, and Bryce and Kyra Purrier; one sister, Marian (Jim) Nelson of Omaha, NE; and two nieces, Dani (Justin) Evans and Nikki (Seth) Fries. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Mary.
