Thomas "Wayne" Umhoefer Thomas "Wayne" Umhoefer passed away at Monarch Meadows on September 5, 2015 in North Mankato after a courageous battle with Parkinsons Disease. Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 14, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. Burial in Ft. Snelling. Visitation will be held from 2 - 5 p.m., Sunday at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary 2060 Commerce Drive North Mankato. Visitation also one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Wayne was born in Triumph, MN on March 28, 1928 to Clifford and Hulda (Laingen) Umhoefer. He graduated in 1947 from Triumph High School where he was a standout on the baseball and basketball teams. Wayne joined the army and served as a tank commander in Korea. He met and married his bride of 64 years in St. Paul, MN in 1951. Wayne began his work career as a hardware salesman and in 1962 joined Honeymead Products where he retired as a Sr. Vice President in 1990. Wayne enjoyed hunting and was an avid golfer and a member of the Mankato Golf Club since 1957. He enjoyed taking his Sunday drives with his family to do "beanchecks". Wayne is survived by his wife, Phyllis; six children: Nanci Meyers, Debra Meyers, Lynda (Paul) Burkel, Mary (Jeff) Piller, Tom (Benita) Umhoefer and Barbie (Paul) Nielson; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gene (Dee) Umhoefer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Dwain Behrens; brother-in-law, Ernie Ekman; sister-in-law, Liz Whalen; and faithful canine companion of 18 years, Diamond. Memorials preferred to Monarch Meadows or Mayo hospice.
