Main Street Lake Crystal, MN 56055 (507) 726-6161 Douglas Lee Johnson, age 82, of Lake Crystal died peacefully, early Monday morning, his favorite time of the day, August 24, 2015, at his home. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Crystal. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at Lake Crystal Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund, Zion Lutheran Church, or the donor's choice. Douglas was born March 16, 1933 to Herbert Carl Sr. and Effie Florence (Swanson) Johnson in Mankato. He graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1951. Doug served his country with the U.S. Army from January 14, 1954 to January 13, 1956. He was united in marriage to Joyce Hylen on October 5, 1968 at Zion Lutheran Church. Doug worked for his father at the family car business, HC Johnson Motors which was started in 1920 in Lake Crystal. He later bought the business in 1969 owning it for 30 years until retiring. Doug was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, a member of the John Roth American Legion Post of Lake Crystal, and the Minnesota Auto Dealers Association. He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, cooking, taking rides in the country, and spending time at Sanibel Island, Florida in the winter and Gull Lake, Minnesota in the summer. He was grateful for his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Doug is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Emily (Patrick) Coleman of Prior Lake; son, Erik Johnson of Shakopee; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Andrew; sister-in-law, Arlene Johnson of Lake Crystal; close brothers-in-law, Dennis (Patty) Hylen and Darrell (Patricia) Hylen; nieces, nephews, and extended family. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herbert (Margaret) Johnson Jr. and Paul Johnson.
