Mankato Mortuary 1001 N. Riverfront Drive Mankato, MN 56001 (507) 388-2202 Donald Allen Peterson, age 87, of Mankato died Monday, August 24, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Health System - Mankato. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mankato. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or BENCHS. Donald was born April 5, 1928, to Victor Nels and Elsie Bertha (Huberman) Peterson in Windom. He graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1946 and then the St. Paul Barber College. He worked in barber shops in Mankato and Albert Lea until 1950 when he was drafted in the U.S. Army. He served for three years during the Korean War until being discharged in 1953. He then attended and graduated from the Mankato Commercial College with a degree in accounting. He was united in marriage to Shirley Wiedman on June 25, 1983, in Mankato. Don was employed by Madsen's Super Value and later Highway Motors in Blue Earth for 25 years as the office manager. He then was employed by the Janesville Power plant for 3 years, retiring in 1985. Don was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the American Legion, Korean War Vets "Frozen Chosen", and VINE Adult Community Center. He enjoyed computers, playing cards, bus trips, the Mankato Symphony, and the MSU Theatre. Don is survived by his wife, Shirley of Mankato; brother-in-law, Dennis Johnson; and special cousins, Marilyn McCarney and Marv Tenhoff. He was preceded in death by his parents.
