David was born on June 14, 1992 at ISJ, Mankato to Daniel and Holly (Gunnink) Reuter. He was premature with a birth defect and was rushed to the Neonatal Unit at U of M, Fairview. At 18 months, it was also discovered that he had Cystinosis. He would battle with these medical issues his entire life. In his younger years, David enjoyed playing basketball and soccer. He and his Dad, Daniel, were in Tae Kwon Do together and earned yellow belt-green stripe. They also hunted deer together. He started playing chess and did some tournaments. In high school, he participated in Knowledge Bowl and was active in Drama. He was very good with computers and enjoyed playing videogames or watching comedians. Art became a passion for him and he drew comic strips (The Adventures of Magic and Bobcat) and had a few strips in the Lake Region Times. He attended Bethany Michelangelo Art Camp in the summer. He was involved in Boy Scouts and got his Eagle Scout in 2010. After graduating from St. Clair High School in 2010, he attended college at Bethany Lutheran where he continued his love of art by majoring in Studio Art. His main interests were painting and drawing. He graduated in December 2014. Due to progression of Cystinosis, David had a lot of muscle weakness and many operations. He was at Gillette Children's Hospital for surgery to straighten his spine when he developed problems and died of cardiac arrest on Thursday, August 20, 2015. David was always good about taking his medicine and never complained about all of the things that he went through. Despite his physical limitations, David was always determined. He was scuba certified, climbed to the top of a glacier in Montana, traveled to Italy, and went to New York City on an art tour in college.
