Mapleton, MN 56065 (507) 524-3616 Marie Kathryn Nelson, 89, retired KYSM/Southern Minnesota Sound Office Manager, passed away Friday, August 7 at the Mapleton Community Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Mapleton with Rev. Jason Kern officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. at the church. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mapleton. Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Marie was born on January 16, 1926 to John F. and Elva (Brecht) O'Connor in Mankato. A Mapleton High School graduate, she attended Mankato Commercial College and worked in the offices of KYSM/Southern Minnesota Sound for over thirty-two years, retiring in 1988. She married Gerald R. Nelson on February 10, 1951 in Mapleton. She was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, St. Teresa Council of Catholic Women and a past member of Venturettes. Her interests included bookkeeping, traveling, and cooking. Marie is survived by son, Gerald J. Nelson; brother, John D. O'Connor; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by husband, Gerald; brother in infancy; and brother, John Bernard.
