Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary 2060 Commerce Drive North Mankato, MN 56003 507-388-2288 Roderick Michael Elbert, 74 of Mankato died on July 30th in a tragic car accident. Rod was born February 21, 1941 in Algona to Micheal and Imogene Elbert. He was one of five children. He attended and graduated from St. Cecelia Catholic High School in Algona, Iowa. He then served in the Armed Forces from 1963 to 1967. He married Patricia Hudspeth on December 30, 1961 and they had four children. In 1999 he married Kathy Ohman and they resided in Mankato, MN. He was a long time employee of Minnegasco and retired at the age of 62. Together they enjoyed line dancing and traveling. Rod and Kathy spent their winters in Arizona where he took pleasure in riding his motorcycle with good friends. Rod was truly a jack-of-all-trades and a master at fixing anything. He also enjoyed bird watching and spending time with family and friends. He was a true lover of people. He is survived by his children: Rod (Peg) Elbert of Fairmont, MN, Paige (Joe) Jelen of Farmington, MN, Melissa (Buck) King of Blue Earth, MN, Kara (John) Schott of Chatfield, MN Stepchildren: Mick Ohman, Mitzi (Steve) Roberts, Mindy Ohman Twelve grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Siblings: Michaela (Mike) Brass of Rudd, IA, Jan (Gary) Brown of Thornton, IA, and Ed (Connie) Elbert of Algona, IA. And many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Imogene Elbert and sister Sondra Rahm. Visitation is Monday, August 3rd from 4:00-8:00 pm at Northview North Mankato Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 4th at 11:00 am at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato.
